When out and about these days it’s hard to miss the “Food trucks” that seem to be popping up on every corner, a concept that has started trending all over the world and one that now serves exquisitely delicious food in this little state! So, while one enjoys the natural beauty and popular Fish Thali’s of Goa, why not take a journey down the food truck trail as well. These past few weeks have been an exploration of the much talked about food trucks and here is the list of the top 5 favourites.
Owned and run by Steve and Elvis, this Tex Mex food truck is usually located around the Taleigao bypass road in Panjim! This big blue and red truck serves a simple menu offering burgers (Chicken and Beef), Hot Dogs, Nachos with Beef chili, sour cream, salsa and cheese and many more delicious snacks with weekly specials such as ribs and much more. The best part about these guys is that they serve everything fresh and hot! Their Tacos are made of soft tortilla wraps filled with stuffing of your choice of non-veg i.e. Prawns, Beef, Chicken or Fish. One portion consists of two pieces of whatever you choose and boy do these fill you up. The fish that goes into making their “Fish & Chips” is Mahi-Mahi fresh from the market daily. This dish is cooked to perfection, well marinated to the point where you can taste all the spices and crispiness and served alongside Tartar sauce and chips.
The burgers here are worth the price approximately Rs:200, they are big and stuffed with homemade pickle, cheese and your choice of filling but the best is the hand cut Bacon. One bite into these juicy burgers at Antojitos gives you a taste of all the love that they have poured into the cooking of it. Their sandwiches are absolutely divine, they are a perfect blend of crispiness and chewy delight that calms your hunger pang right there and then! These are just some of the dishes this truck has on offer but one must try the rest of their varieties and be assured you will not to be disappointed.

The Tiny Blue Cart
A cart situated in the quaint by lanes of Majorda, which one can easily miss without the guidance of a local is winning over south Goa’s heart. Expect a bright warm smile by the owner Remedious as you step up to give your order. Their most popular serving is the Cutlet Pao made with tender meat blended with a very distinctive green masala that hits the right spot! The difference is the masala recipe which has been passed down through the family for generations but no one had still managed to figure out the correct combination to replicate it. Remedious, has had many offers to work abroad and open at a larger location but has turned them all down. He is all too happy doing his little cart and spreading jot to all those who stop by. When one is missing the feeling of home, head over to this food truck for super yummy homemade comfort soups too, just the thing in the monsoon.

Just a stone’s throw away from the famous ‘4 pillars’ parked next to Santa Cruz football field is “Costas”, well known for their juicy varieties cutlet pavs however their Chicken Cafreal and Croquets are worth a shot too. Unlike most of the cutlet pav vendors in the north who also server up tender pieces of meat Costas has a completely different gravy to accompany it. The Pav here is layered with home-style traditional tangy and tomato based sorpotel gravy and topped with cabbage salad, one can choose the choice of crumb fried meat of Chicken or Beef to be tucked into your bread. The only drawback is that crowd swells up quickly here and it can often take time to get your order and more often than not they have sold their entire stock by 9pm.

This rather colourful and larger than life truck, painted with images of our beloved Disney characters is easy to find on the corner of the small Arpora & Anjuna round about. Now nearly everything on the menu is just delicious from their usual fair of Beef Cutlet, Chilly Fry, Croquets and Roast. The Beef is tender and juicy in all its forms. Nearly all the Beef menu is worth tying at least once before you settle on a favourite. They also serve Fish cutlets, which is rather unusual for a food truck. The dish is prepared with the fresh catch from the day and perfectly crumbly and just right to curb that desire for something in seafood. But for the Pork lovers this is a little haven on wheels. Of course, they have the usual Goan Sausage and pav, but what is different is that they also serve Sorportel! A dish that takes days to cook and only gets better with age and the gravy seeps into the Pork to give it that unique flavour balance of tang, chilli and sweet. Moving onto a local delicacy and favourite but not usually tired by most tourists is the Pork Add Mass, or better known as Pork Ribs Goan style. At one point this dish was only made for feasts but it now become part of the regular fair in a lot of Goan homes. This a traditional dish is cooked to the extent that the meat just falls off the bones and lives one licking their fingers and mopping up the gravy. But be warned it is not always available but worth checking every time you drive past this truck, who knows it may be your lucky day.
